Welcome Ranger to Lucky Dog!!! Ranger is a 6yr old Boxador (boxer/Labrador) and Corgi mix weighing 75lbs. Ranger came into rescue a few months ago when his owner unexpectedly passed away. Ranger is a very sweet boy with a very interesting past. As a young dog he found himself in a program that helps prison inmates train and care for shelter dogs in Missouri. Ranger was trained to be a service dog for veteran and that’s when he met his dad. Ranger was a great companion and watch dog for his dad that had limited physical abilities. When his owner passed away he left Ranger to his son in Wisconsin who unfortunately didn’t have room for Ranger. When Ranger arrived at Lucky Dog he was very obese. Barely able to get around and struggled to breathe from the weight. His foster mom took amazing care of him and worked very hard to help Ranger get back to a healthy weight. He is down to a much healthier and appropriate weight of 75lbs! Our partner vet feels he is within 10lbs of his perfect weight. Ranger can now climb stairs, run after toys in the backyard, play chase with his foster dog sister, and enjoys going for walks! Ranger is an amazing boy. He does well with other dogs but can be protective of his people as part of his training. His bark can be loud to alert but once he meets people he is a big softy. He does well with kids and is extremely patient. He is housetrained and has never had an accident in the house. He will need a home that will continue working with Ranger on his weight loss. He eats a premium food, takes supplements for his joints, and requires sedation to be seen by the vet. Somewhere in Ranger’s journey he has become very fearful of vet offices. He is intolerant of his legs or feet being touched and will give you many warnings to stop. Until he works through these feelings sedation is a must at the vet office. His owner and foster mom who he trusts were able to cut nails and give medications. Trust is very big for Ranger. Ranger is crate trained but crates are not necessary with him. He has a large bed that he lays on to keep him comfortable and doesn’t make any messes or get into trouble. This is all part of his training. Ranger’s perfect home would be active to semi-active, willing to continue his weight loss journey, acknowledge his need for premium dog food, joint supplements and sedation medications for going to the vet, loving and gentle. Ranger is a very gentle giant with very short legs. He will be a great companion for anyone looking for the most loyal dog you will ever meet. Ranger’s adoption fee includes all new vaccinations (rabies, dhlpp, bordetella), microchip with lifetime registration to Lucky Dog Rescue, 4dx test (heartworm and 3 tick borne illnesses including Lymes disease), heartworm/flea/tick prevention, full health exam, and health certificate. Ranger was previously neutered. We will be including an Orthopedic bed, 40lb bag of premium weight management Victor brand dog food and joint supplements.
